Welcome to week one of the One Room Challenge!
Wondering what that is? The One Room Challenge® (ORC) is an eight-week event where participants transform a space and share their progress. I am excited to be participating and transforming my laundry room.
Do you have a room in your home that bugs you?
For me, that room is our laundry room. While I’m thankful we have one, nothing about the design is something I would have chosen (and I definitely didn’t choose it)!
Brick red walls. Wire shelving. Weird flooring that looks dirty no matter how much you mop it. No trim. Popcorn ceiling. Dated window treatments. No light fixture?!?
Here’s where I am starting…

BUT, all of that changes now. Here’s the plan…
Laundry Room Refresh

- Create a wall stencil. Hear me out. I’m not normally a stencil person, but my husband and I have slight wallpaper ptsd from all the wallpaper removal in this house (and we still have wallpaper to remove upstairs). Yet, I want some pattern in this room. So, stencil it is. Remove the popcorn ceiling and patch if needed.
- Prime and paint the ceiling and walls.
- Pick out trim, new lighting, curtains, new flooring, wood for shelving, vent covers, door knobs, light switch covers, and more.
- Rip up flooring.
- Lay new flooring
- Cut and paint trim.
- Cut and paint shelving.
- Hang trim and shelving.
- Add new light fixture and curtains.
- Add updated fixtures, switches, knobs, etc.
- Organize laundry supplies.
- Add decorative elements.

Can I finish all of this in 8 weeks? I hope so!
A huge thank you to Linda for letting me participate in the One Room Challenge and motivating me to finally work on updating my laundry room.
I’ll be back next week with an update. Be sure to check out the other participant’s rooms here!
